(Phoenix, State Capitol)----Senator-elect Kimberly Yee has been chosen to lead the Senate Committee on Education. Senate President-elect Andy Biggs made the announcement this afternoon.

Sen.-elect Yee has a long history with education policy. In California, she was chosen by then-Governor Pete Wilson to be a policy analyst to the California State Board of Education. She has also worked as a research analyst for the Arizona Senate Committee on Education, and has 16 years of experience in public education.

Yee is currently serving in the Arizona House of Representatives, and is vice-chair of the House Committee on Education.

"More than 20 years ago, it was in that very Senate Education Committee hearing room that I testified as a high school student in support of a student journalism bill being considered by the Senate. When that bill successfully passed out of the Education Committee, I was instantly convinced we all have a voice in this process called public policy making. Later, I worked for several years as the research analyst for the Senate Education Committee. Now, to be asked to Chair the Education Committee is like coming full circle and really, Im truly honored," says Sen.-elect Yee.

"It speaks volumes about Senator Biggs desire to embrace all of us among our caucus and hone in on our policy backgrounds, even reaching out to those of us who supported his opponent in the leadership race," says Sen.-elect Yee.   back...
