Construction of the new road realignment for US 60 will require a short delay for blasting

Motorists traveling along US 60 between Phoenix and Globe should prepare for short delays west of Superior Wednesday morning, December 16 as the Arizona Department of Transportation begins blasting work as part of a project to construct a new section of four-lane divided highway.

The construction of the divided highway, as part of the Silver King/Superior Streets project, will require a full closure of US 60 for approximately 20 minutes starting between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Dec 16. The closure is needed to ensure blasting debris does not reach motorists who may be traveling through that area.

The highway will be closed eastbound at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and westbound at the Superior airport.

The new divided highway alignment will connect to the existing divided highway, which ended near the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. The blasting for this project is not part of the current blasting work occurring east of Superior for the Oak Flat passing lane project.

The $32.9 million project, which will improve traffic flow and enhance safety along the corridor, will continue the improvements of US 60 from the East Valley through Superior to the State Route 177 junction.

Drivers are asked to use caution, watch for construction equipment and personnel, and allow extra time for your commute.
