Friday lane closures will be in effect through April, full closures still Mondays through Thursdays

Motorists traveling on State Route 77 between Winkelman and Globe can expect travel delays on Fridays through the end of April when a project to remove potentially hazardous rocks is scheduled for completion.

Lane closures will be in effect on Fridays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. to allow crews to drill the slopes for future demolition shots and to remove debris from earlier shots.

A pilot vehicle will guide traffic through the restricted area, which will be between mileposts 154-161 in the Dripping Springs area. Delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected.

The project will continue to require full closures of SR 77 between Winkelman and Globe Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., with lane closures and pilot vehicle activity from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. and from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. each of those days.

No restrictions are scheduled on weekends.

The project is removing potentially hazardous rocks from the slopes adjacent to SR 77 to prevent rocks from coming down on their own while traffic is present.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
