Del Rio Sector Will Host a Veterans Only Open House on June 17

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol in Del Rio will be hosting an open house event on June 17 for any veterans who are interested in applying to become an agent.

Within fiscal year 2016, the Border Patrol employed 19,828 men and women across the nation. Of that number, 1,439 were employed within the Del Rio Sector which has stations in Eagle Pass, Carrizo Springs, Comstock, Del Rio, Brackettville, Uvalde, Rocksprings, and San Angelo. And, Border Patrol is looking to hire more.

If you or someone you know intends to apply, or is even just thinking about it, the Del Rio Sector invites all veterans to an Open House on June 17 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Sector Headquarters (2401 Dodson Avenue, Del Rio). Anyone interested may come at any time, ask questions, view the application process first hand, and even apply on site.

Basic eligibility requirements to be a Border Patrol Agent are as follows:

Veteran’s Preference Eligible
Have a valid driver’s license
Have resided in the U.S. for at least 3 of the last 5 years (military exception)
Be eligible to carry a firearm
Referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (waivers available for veteran’s preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position

Credit for military service and VA benefits for approved on-the-job training programs are available. The minimum starting salary is $52,583 with the possibility of earning more depending on experience and education. Within four years, agents will make at least $97,486 per year. Applicants that attend the Open House will find it very beneficial to meet face-to-face with recruiters and staff.
