Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd would like to release the following information regarding an aggravated assault investigation.

On February 3, 2018, at approximately 6:22 p.m. the Gila County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from an individual reporting that an unknown male subject had entered her residence and a struggle over a handgun ensued. During the struggle, the victim sustained a single gunshot wound to her lower extremities.

Deputies along with Detectives from the Gila County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to the area of Pinal View Drive in Globe, Arizona. The victim reported to detectives that she retrieved a handgun and confronted one unknown male subject, who was attempting to burglarize her residence. The victim reported to Detectives that during the confrontation a struggle ensued over the handgun at which point the victim sustained a gunshot wound to her lower extremities, the victim was treated for her injuries by the Globe and Tri City Fire Departments. The victim was later flown by a medical air ambulance to a hospital in Chandler, Arizona where the she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect in this investigation is unknown at this time and was only described as a Caucasian male with facial hair growth. This is an active investigation and further information may be released as it becomes available.
