WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl made the following statement in response to President Obamas call for more federal spending to address the nations stagnant economy:

Faced with the reality of historic unemployment rates and record federal debt, I had hoped that President Obama, by now, would understand that even more government spending doesnt create jobs. Rather than offer a new roadmap for recovery and reform, he merely dusted off a tired agenda of old ideas wrapped in freshly partisan rhetoric.

President Obama had large Democrat majorities in both the House and Senate during his first two years in office, and pushed through his top priorities: a trillion dollar stimulus spending bill, a multi-trillion dollar health spending bill, and job-killing new regulations on financial services, to name a few.

What did it get us? Soaring unemployment rates, continuing bankruptcies and foreclosures, and businesses holding off hiring or expanding out of concerns about taxes and regulations.

Now, President Obama, perhaps not knowing what else to do, is simply calling for more of the same, as if giving us more of the failed policies of the last two-and-a-half years will somehow yield different results. I believe President Obamas new ˜stimulus will further delay economic recovery and continue to inflict harm on so many Americans.
