Drivers should avoid using westbound Interstate 10 approaching the downtown Phoenix area and West Valley this weekend, as the Arizona Department of Transportation makes needed repairs and works on freeway improvement projects. Westbound I-10 will be closed between the Interstate 17 "Split" interchange near Sky Harbor International Airport and the Interstate 17 "Stack" interchange for deck joint maintenance at the Deck Park Tunnel and between 43rd and 59th avenues for construction of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. A number of entrance ramps near the freeway closures will also be closed to traffic. Expect delays and slow traffic. Drivers should allow extra travel time and use alternate routes while the following restrictions are in place:

Westbound I-10 will be closed between the I-17 "Split" near Sky Harbor Airport and the I-17 "Stack" from 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27. Detour: Westbound I-10 traffic will detour to northbound I-17 near downtown Phoenix.
Ramps closed during the above closure: Southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10, westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) on-ramp at 24th Street and the southbound I-17 ramp to westbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport. The westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramp to westbound I-10 will be open but all traffic must exit at Seventh Street and use alternate westbound routes, including McDowell Road.
The ramp from the west end of Sky Harbor Airport to westbound I-10 will be open but traffic must detour to northbound State Route 51 or eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway). Traffic using the westbound I-10 on-ramp from Sky Harbor Circle/ Washington Street will need to detour to northbound State Route 51 or eastbound Loop 202.
Westbound I-10 will also be closed between 43rd and 59th Avenues (west of I-17) from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29. Detour: Westbound I-10 traffic exiting at 43rd Avenue can detour west on McDowell Road or Van Buren Street.
Ramps closed during the above closure: Southbound I-17 to westbound Interstate 10 at the "Stack" interchange, the southbound I-17 off-ramp at McDowell Road and westbound I-10 on-ramps at 27th and 35th avenues. Detour: Consider exiting southbound I-17 at Thomas Road and traveling west to go beyond the I-10 closure.

Alternate freeway routes include northbound I-17 to westbound Loop 101 in north Phoenix. East Valley drivers should consider using Loop 101 across the north and west Valley areas to avoid the I-10 closure. Westbound I-10 drivers with plans to travel through Phoenix from Tucson or southeast Arizona can avoid this weekend's closures by detouring to westbound Interstate 8 near Casa Grande and using northbound State Route 85 at Gila Bend to access I-10 in Buckeye.
