Another year has come and gone. As I reflect back on 2006, a year of change and growth, I look forward, as many do, with hopes and dreams to a bright 2007.
Those hopes and dreams, along with faith, are what keeps us strong, particularly in the face of adversity.
A shining example of hopes and dreams were exemplified in the New Year's Day Tostitos Fiesta Bowl played in Glendale, Arizona on New Year's Day.
I found myself rooting for Boise State, billed as "America's Underdog." This meeting was dubbed by the announcers as "David vs Goliath." Boise's coach told viewers they were playing this game for ". . . anybody else out there who thinks they might not have a chance. We're playing for everybody."
The game went back and forth. Near the end of the 4th quarter, with 7 seconds left, and 4th and 18, all seemed lost. Boise State pulled it off, tied and went into overtime.
Oklahoma seemed to score easily on the first drive, but Boise State came back, scored a touchdown and went for two. I'm sure this game will be all over the news and the recap can't possibly do justice to watching the entire amazing game. Boise made it look so easy and never seemed to doubt that they would win.
A heavy favorite, Oklahoma State had 7 national championships and 40 conference titles under their belt. The big question throughout the night seemed to be, "Can the little dog run with the big dog?" When all was said and done, the old adage, "It's not the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog" was proven once again.
Here's hoping your New Year is filled with hopes, dreams and successes. Until next issue . . . take care.
