I had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Congressman Renzi last week as he outlined three of his top priorities for District 1.
Readers can expect updates in upcoming issues concerning the bridge program in Tonto Basin; the Secure Rural Schools Initiative, a program that utilizes funds from Forest Service fees to purchase equipment and supplies for our schools; and Globe's Alternative High School, a program initiated by School Superintendent Dr. Linda O'Dell and assisted into fruition with funds of approximately $250,000 thanks to the efforts of Congressman Renzi. .
This issue reports on County Attorney Andrew Thomas' call for an inquiry by Congress and the State Legislature to look "into the circumstances surrounding the recent reported retreat by National Guard troops along the Mexican border." Thomas wants answers as to "why Governor Janet Napolitano devoted only a small fraction of the tail end of her State of the State address to the border crisis. . . despite the fact that the issue figured prominently in last November's elections and four initiatives cracking down on illegal immigration passed overwhelmingly.".
Napolitano, it seems, is the archetype for the age-old adage, "If you can't dazzle Ëœem with brilliance, baffle Ëœem with bullshit." I think the next four years will demonstrate that her egregious foray into politics was nothing more than self-aggrandizement to satisfy her overblown ego.
On to better things . . . We're still finishing up the details related to the expansion of this publication. I think once the new format hits the streets, readers will agree it was well worth the wait. Until next issue . . . take care.
