On Friday morning, November 17, Fish & Feel Good guide, Marty Gage headed out to Roosevelt Lake to do some fishing with his father-in-law Jim Genord. They arrived at the dock around 9 a.m. and began fishing from Marty's pontoon boat.
Soon after, Marty put a hook in a large bluegill caught by another nearby fisherman who planned to throw it back in the lake.

He threw out about 10 feet of line and about two minutes later, had a "big hit that nearly yanked the pole into the lake!"
Then there was nothing for awhile (at least a very long minute). All of a sudden, he hit again. Marty set the hook, pretty sure he had the "big one" and the fight was on.
The bass took off under the pontoon boat, around a cable and under the dock. After managing to get the "monster" loose and reeling up all the line, Marty netted him and headed for the marina scale.
It was just a few short year's ago that local Roosevelt resident, Ethel Turner, caught a 10.6 - and a 14-pound bass in the same day off the marina dock.
Marty's been chasing that "elusive big one" ever since and couldn't resist showing Ethel "the one that didn't get away." Needless to say, he embellished a bit and told her this one weighed 17 pounds.
Ethel was speechless, probably for the first time in her seventy-some years. After enjoying about 5 minutes of silence, Marty told Ethel the truth. Those of you who know her can pretty much imagine what she said.
Roosevelt Lake has been projected as the "premiere bass fishing spot in the country over the next several years.'
