(State Capitol, Phoenix) The House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution to ensure that schools continue to receive money, despite surpassing their constitutional expenditure limit. The move allows schools to disregard the constitutional limit. The Legislature has increased spending for education dramatically in the last several years and districts need authority to spend nearly $147 million. Without legislative action, districts could not spend the money. "Even with the state facing such difficult budget times, it is important that the schools are allowed to spend their money," Anderson said. "As the Education Committee chairman, I am committed to protecting education funding and ensuring our students get the required resources they need to succeed." The measure must also be approved by the Senate. Schools needed the authority to spend the money by March 1.
