(STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX) Sen. Jonathan Paton, R-Tucson, has asked local, state and federal officials to brief a Senate committee Monday on the extent of border violence, crime and the deadly effects of drug cartel wars moving into Arizona. Hundreds of people are being kidnapped, raped and killed; body parts are cut off if ransoms arent paid fast enough; drug cartel members are being assassinated in our own state, said Paton, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. This is very real, and policymakers need to hear about the dangers members of our communities and law enforcement are facing every day. Local, state and federal officials will brief the Senate Judiciary Committee on border crime and violence and how these dangerous situations are affecting our communities. Presentations will include displays of seized weapons and other visuals members of the media can videotape and photograph; accounts of stash and drop houses, home invasions, kidnappings, murders and other violent crimes, as well as updates on criminal prosecutions.
