"Grandma Bandit" Arrested in California

Rocklin, CA: The Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force (SVCTF), comprised of Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents and Sacramento County Sheriff's Department robbery detectives, and the Roseville Police Department arrested Valerie Harris, also known as the "Grandma Bandit". Harris, a 50 year old resident of Rocklin, California, was arrested this morning following a search of her residence. Harris was suspected in the armed bank robbery of the US Bank branch located inside the Safeway Grocery Store at 989 Sunrise Avenue, Roseville, California, on December 12, 2007. During the robbery she presented a note demanding money from the teller and displayed a handgun that was located in her purse. An anonymous tip received by the FBI Office in Sacramento, California, led investigators to Harris. Following her arrest, Harris was interviewed by investigators and admitted committing the robbery. She will be booked with the U.S. Marshall's Office and will make her initial appearance today at 2:00 p.m. in federal court.
