Rhode Island Most Wanted Captured in Topock, Arizona

Topock, AZ Early yesterday, Deputy United States Marshals from Arizona and the Los Angeles Regional Fugitive Task Force captured Rhode Island Most Wanted John Ferreira, age 61, at his residence on Agua Caliente Drive in Topock, AZ. Deputies began hunting for Ferreira on Tuesday morning with surveillance on a residence in Topock. At approximately 1:30 pm, a brother of the fugitive was seen near the residence, Deputies then knew they had the right house. At approximately 1:45 pm, Deputies searched the residence. Ferreira was located hiding in a back closet; he was taken into custody without further incident. John Ferreira was wanted by the State of Rhode Island for failure to appear for sentencing on January 12, 2007. Ferreira was originally convicted by a Jury for 1st degree Child Molestation and 2nd degree Child Molestation. The warrant was issued in January 2007 with nationwide extradition. United States Marshal David Gonzales, District of Arizona, praised the work of everyone involved, adding, The United States Marshals Service will travel into the smallest towns and largest cities to arrest fugitives. Criminals who violate the innocence of children will always be a priority. Today, a convicted child molester was taken off the streets. FERREIRA was booked into Mohave County Jail in Kingman Arizona and charged with Fugitive of Justice. He will be awaiting extradition to Rhode Island. This case originated from Kent County, Coventry Police Department and the United States Marshals Service in Rhode Island.
