Temecula, Calif. During the past 10 days, more than 200 pounds of cocaine were seized from vehicles traveling northbound on Interstate 15 in Temecula. The latest seizure took place yesterday, when agents discovered 25 kilograms of the drug stashed in a pickup truck. Border Patrol agents in Southern California fish out packages of cocaine hidden in this pickup's dashboard. Agents made the find on Interstate 15, near the exit to Murrieta Hot Springs Road, where they stopped a Dodge Dakota driven by a 45-year-old male driver. After the agents smelled a strong odor of cologne inside the pickup truck, a Border Patrol canine team was summoned to the scene of the vehicle stop. The detector dog alerted on the vehicle and led agents to find 20 tightly-wrapped bundles of cocaine hidden inside a secret compartment in the vehicles dashboard. The cocaine and the driver of the pickup truck were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. This incident marks the third cocaine seizure in the Temecula area since Feb.10.
