Border Patrol Agents Seize 2 Tons of Marijuana in South Texas

Border Patrol agents working in the south Texas region near Rio Grande City seized two tons of marijuana stuffed in this cargo van. Rio Grande City, Texas - Border Patrol agents working in the Escobares, Texas area yesterday encountered and seized more than 4,000 pounds of marijuana jammed inside a cargo van. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande City station seized 166 bundles of marijuana while conducting surveillance along a heavily trafficked area near the Rio Grande River. Agents observed several subjects loading up a GMC cargo van with what appeared to narcotics. Once the agents identified themselves, the subjects fled back toward Mexico. No subjects were arrested and a search of the immediate area did not produce any additional bundles. This seizure, with a total weight of 4,159 pounds, has an estimated street value of $3,327,200. The Drug Enforcement Administration assumed custody of the contraband and the vehicle.
