
TUCSON, Arizona A serial bank robber suspected of committing five bank robberies in Pima County was arrested early this morning by US Marshals after his expulsion from Mexico into the United States. Raul Gallegos a United States Citizen, 40, was taken into custody by Sonora State Investigative Police (PEI) in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico yesterday afternoon. District of Arizona Mexican Investigative Liaison (MIL) facilitated the apprehension of Gallegos, and was taken to the DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales, Az. U.S. Marshal lead Arizona WANTED Task Force took custody of Gallegos at the Point of Entry and booked him into Pima County Jail where he is being held on a 500,000 dollar bond.
US Marshal Mexican Investigative Liaison (MIL) from the District of Arizona received information that Gallegos was avoiding apprehension by hiding in Mexico. With the assistance from Sonora State Investigative Police (PEI), and the National Mexico National Institute of Immigration (INM), Gallegos was located, arrested, and turned over to the US Marshals at the United States Port of Entry, in Nogales, Arizona.
Gallegos is suspected of committing five bank robberies in Pima County, dating back to December 2009. His string of robberies continued into 2010, when he is again suspected of robbing four more banks between January and February 2010. He is also believed to be responsible for multiple bank robberies in the states of Texas, and Colorado.
Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement were key contributors in tracking down this dangerous fugitive. US Marshal David Gonzales praised the efforts of all agencies involved by stating, Collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies including our Mexican Counterparts is inherent in all successful US Marshal lead operations. This coordinated effort between a variety of agencies at all levels of government across international boundaries led to the arrest of a fugitive who potentially endangers any community in which he resides.ÂÂÂ
