El Paso, Texas U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Bridge of the Americas commercial cargo facility at the El Paso port of entry seized 3,760 pounds of marijuana Tuesday. The estimated street value of the seized contraband is $3,008,000.
This seizure was the direct result of hard working CBP officers using various layers of technology to identify and stop a sizeable drug load, said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso port director.
The seizure was made just after 2 p.m. when a tractor trailer hauling a load of copy paper arrived at the port from Mexico. CBP officers selected the truck for a non-intrusive x-ray examination. The scan of the commodity was suspicious so the truck was unloaded. A CBP drug sniffing dog searched the shipment and alerted to boxes of copy paper. CBP officers opened the boxes and found marijuana-filled bundles inside. They removed a total of 322 bundles, weighing 3,670 pounds. No arrests were made and the investigation is continuing.
