Senate Mourns Sudden Passing of Senator Marilyn Jarrett

State Capitol, Phoenix Members and staff of the Arizona State Senate have suffered a tremendous loss today with the sudden passing of State Senator Marilyn Jarrett.
Senator Jarrett served with great distinction in the legislature for the past 11 years. She held leadership positions in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, serving as Majority Whip in both chambers. In her current term, Senator Jarrett held the post of President Pro Tem. She has also served as the chairperson of numerous committees throughout her years of legislative service.
Among the many organizations and groups to which she lent her time and energies, was the National Order of Women Legislators. This national organization, dedicated to the advancement of women in policymaking roles throughout the country, thought so highly of Senator Jarrett, this past September it elected her to serve as their President.
Senator Jarrett served her Mesa constituents with tremendous dedication, but also never forgot her rural Arizona roots. She was passionate about forest health and led the way to passage of major pieces of legislation designed to return Arizonas forest lands to safe and sound condition. The Senator also worked tirelessly on improving public safety and our system of justice to the benefit of all Arizonans.
Senator Jarretts dedication to Arizona as a public servant was matched by her infinite grace and tremendous compassion. It was impossible to know and work with Senator Jarrett without coming to consider her a friend. Someone will ultimately fill her Senate seat, but her unique warmth, good nature and simple elegance will never be replaced.
