Fountain Hills Theater is proud to announce the opening of the Jerry Herman smash hit musical, La Cage Aux Folles. This hilarious musical comedy served as the basis for the Robin Williams’ film “The Birdcage”. But before there was the popular movie, there was the hysterical ‘modern family’ musical - La Cage Aux Folles. In La Cage Aux Folles cultures collide with comedic results. This wonderful ‘come as you are’ musical tells the story of Georges, the owner of a glitzy nightclub in lovely Saint-Tropez, and his partner, Albin, who moonlights as the glamorous chanteuse, Zaza. When Georges' son brings home his fiancée’s conservative parents to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test! La Cage Aux Folles is a tuneful and touching tale of one family's struggle to stay together, stay fabulous and above all else, stay true to themselves! With a glorious score of hummable melodies written by Jerry Herman of Hello, Dolly!, Mame and Mack & Mabel fame, and a hilarious book by Harvey Fierstein, La Cage Aux Folles is an indisputable musical comedy classic!

The original 1983 Broadway production of La Cage Aux Folles received nine nominations for Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. The 2004 Broadway revival won the Tony Award for Best Revival, the 2008 London revival garnered the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. The 2010 Broadway revival was nominated for eleven Tony Awards, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. La Cage aux Folles is the first musical to win the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical twice and has also won a Best Production Tony Award (Best Musical or Best Revival of a Musical) for each of its Broadway productions.

La Cage Aux Folles is produced by Patty Torrilhon and Patricia Tonzi and directed by Peter J. Hill. The show is choreographed by Noel Irick, musically directed by Jay Melberg and costumed by Mickey Courtney. La Cage Aux Folles stars: Bill Bennett, Mark Burkett.
