WASHINGTON – Today, the House passed H.R. 2810, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2018 with a vote of 344-81. Upon passage, Chairman Thornberry (R-TX), of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement:
“For the 56th year in a row, the House has passed a bipartisan bill that prioritizes the men and women in uniform who selflessly volunteer to support and defend our nation. This bill takes the necessary steps to begin to rebuild and reform our military, including billions in additional funds to begin to close the dangerous readiness gaps our troops are facing.
In addition, it gives our troops their biggest pay raise in eight years, which they are entitled to under the law. It beefs up missile defense at a time when the threats continue to increase. It increases end strength to provide our services the personnel they need to complete the missions we send them on. The bill also makes major reforms in acquisition and services contracting. And it continues to support the DOD audit in FY 2018.
With all that we are able to achieve in this bill, there is still much to do to ensure our military is properly manned, trained, and equipped. I look forward to continuing our work to ensure this bill moves forward with the focus on our men and women in uniform.†back...
