BLK BOX PHX’s 2018-19 season kicks off with a classic tale of good and evil, Ray Bradbury’s “Something Wicked This Way Comes”, playing from October 31 through November 11th. Two young boys, Will and Jim, are lured into a mysterious carnival that passes through their town. Soon they discover the diabolical and terrifying truths behind the funhouse mirror maze and the eerie cast of characters. The boys, with the help of Will’s father, fight to save their Town from the sinister carnival and its malevolent leader, Mr. Dark, that threaten to destroy it. Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story tells the true story of Buddy’s meteoric rise to fame, from the moment in 1957 when ‘That’ll Be the Day’ hit the airwaves until his tragic death less than two years later on “the day the music died”. The show features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits including ‘That’ll Be The Day’, ‘Peggy Sue’, ‘Everyday’, ‘Oh Boy’, ‘Not Fade Away’, ‘Rave On’ and ‘Raining In My Heart’, plus Ritchie Valens’ ‘La Bamba’ and The Big Bopper’s ‘Chantilly Lace’.

The incredible legacy of the young man with glasses, whose musical career spanned an all-too-brief period during the golden days of rock & roll, continues to live on in Buddy.

Phoenix, AZ – Desert Botanical Garden announced its fall lineup in its highly anticipated Music in the Garden concert series. This series is the only place to see local and national musicians perform live in the Garden’s iconic desert venue. Come early because your concert tickets allow you to explore the dazzling display of 50,000 desert plants. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and concerts are 7 to 9 p.m.

New for this year are two All Ages performances, featuring Walt Richardson & friends on October 26 and April Verch on November 16. It is Verch’s first time performing at the Garden for this Canadian fiddler, singer and stepdancer who has been captivating audiences worldwide.

Phoenix, AZ – Mighty monarchs arrive at Desert Botanical Garden’s fall butterfly exhibit on Sept. 30. Beneficial insects native to the Southwest region, as well as other butterflies join monarchs for this engaging display that invites Garden visitors to explore the insects that care for and protect the desert environment.

From pollinators to predators, insects have incredible powers and play a variety of roles in the desert. “Monarch butterflies are beautiful insects that undergo an incredible migration and are an important part of the desert. They are one of many insects that plants rely on and we are excited to share those with our visitors,” says Dr. Kim Pegram, insect ecologist and exhibit specialist at the Garden.
