Now in its 18th hour following the mass shooting into a crowd of concert-goers, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is working to process the crime scene across from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and also investigate the motives of the shooter, said Sheriff Joe Lombardo at an 3 p.m. briefing on Monday.

Metro and its partners have executed a search warrant at the home of Stephen Craig Paddock in Mesquite, Nevada. Detectives are combing through evidence to uncover the shooter’s motives and any other pertinent information that will help shed light on the Sunday night massacre.

Paddock opened fire on a crowd of more than 22,000 concert-goers from his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel on Sunday evening at approximately 10:08 p.m. The victims were across the street attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert when bullets rang out. LVMPD SWAT responded to the call, breached the hotel room and found the suspect dead.

The latest estimate on the number of injured stands at 516 with 59 dead. Homicide detectives are working as quickly as possible to process the crime scene on Las Vegas Boulevard. We understand people who attended the concert need to retrieve personal belongings. Once Metro is close to clearing that scene, there will be more information on that matter.

The Family Resource Center will play a role in that task. We want people to know that the center, which was temporarily located at Metro HQ, is now up and running at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Metro asked families and friends who live in Las Vegas to physically go to the center if they are seeking to find a loved one. Due to technical difficulties there is a new hotline for families to call if they have a missing relative. The number is (800) 536-9488.

This is still an active investigation. The Federal Bureau of Investigations is asking for anyone with videos or photos concerning the shooting to call 1-800-CALLFBI or (800) 225-5324.   back...
