State average falls below $3 a gallon

Phoenix -- Arizona has joined 20 other states in averaging a sub-$3 gallon. This week, the price of a gallon of gas in the state plummeted 8 cents to $2.969, while the national average dropped almost 7 cents to $3.010.

“While falling gas prices are typical this time of year, the continuing drop in crude oil – including a temporary sub-$80 barrel price this week – has exacerbated the reductions,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “As long as crude stays low, motorists should enjoy lower prices, barring unforeseen circumstances.”

The East Valley and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $2.857 and $3.282 per gallon, respectively. South Carolina and New York hold the lowest and highest average price for the lower 48 states at $2.756 and $3.383 per gallon, respectively.   back...
