Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd would like to release the following updated information regarding a search and rescue operation on Tonto Creek near Tonto Basin, AZ.

On November 29, 2019 at approximately 4:11 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a vehicle stuck in Tonto Creek near the Bar X Crossing. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopters rescued (1) one adult and (4) four children who were stranded on an island. Another adult was rescued from the shore.

On November 30, 2019 at approximately 8:45 a.m. one child was recovered and the next of kin has been notified.

On November 30, 2019 at approximately 11:14 a.m. another child was recovered and the next of kin has been notified.

On December 13, 2019 at approximately 2:24 p.m. a child was recovered from the area of Indian Point on the north side of Roosevelt Lake on the Tonto Creek Arm. The recovery is believed to be the last missing child. However, the identity will be confirmed as soon as possible. The next of kin has been notified.
