While reading the article in this issue titled, "Arizona's Exports on Track for Record Year," I wondered why the U.S. does not do more in the way of tax breaks for the film industry.

During the interview with Diane Ladd (see last issue), Ms Ladd discussed that very issue with me. She noted that she was in Vancouver 8 times filming and between 1990 and 2000, $27 billion dollars walked out of this country and went elsewhere. Five hundred jobs went to Vancouver, who is fond of saying they built 3 sports stadiums with money from American productions. Those tax shelters and rebates should be kept in the U.S.

Speaking of the U.S., many home buyers from the real estate frenzy are now feeling the crunch when it comes to making that monthly mortgage payment. Our first feature article informs readers of the new law that makes mortgage loan fraud a felony in the state of Arizona.

We thought it was appropriate to include some additional information for those who opted for the adjustable rate mortgages. The article, Attention ARM Borrowers, offers some advice and sources of information for readers. Additional information on the subject can be found on our website at tontobasinnews.com.

It seems as the day's temperatures heat up, so does the fishing at Roosevelt Lake. According to Rory Aikens with Arizona Game & Fish, "Roosevelt is definitely THE hot spot for crappie, bass and huge flatheads.

Most likely, the big bass parade will only increase in intensity as the new-lake syndrome continues. You don't have to be Nostradamus or have a PhD in biology to figure out that we ain't seen nothing yet; the best is yet to come." Stay cool!   back...
