TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia and the Department of Financial Services' Criminal Investigations Division (CID) announced the arrest of a criminal illegal alien, Jose Arias-Reyes, from Miami-Dade County, for insurance fraud. Arias-Reyes has two prior removals from the United States with two illegal re-entries. He also has two convictions for domestic assault and DUI in the United States and will be facing multiple state and federal charges as a criminal alien. This arrest was made with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations.
Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia said, “Jose Arias-Reyes had no legal right to be in this country and his arrest is a victory for hard-working Floridians who voted for President Trump’s directive to remove illegal aliens from our communities. Florida does not tolerate illegal immigration, nor do we tolerate criminals who take advantage of the system. We will continue working with our statewide law enforcement partners to hold these offenders accountable and fight back against illegal immigration.”
Arias-Reyes was the president of AR Carpentry Services Inc. and concealed the true payroll amounts of his company to evade a higher workers’ compensation premium. Arias-Reyes fraudulently reported payroll exposure to his workers' compensation insurance company. Arias-Reyes paid only $5,065 in premiums for Workers' Compensation insurance, when he should have been paying $388,693.
Arias-Reyes’ actions constitute premium fraud in violation of section 440.381 (4), Florida Statutes. Homeland Security Investigations will seek prosecution for violation of Title 8 U.S.C 13.26.
The case will be prosecuted by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. The Department of Financial Services encourages anyone with knowledge of insurance fraud to report it at FraudFreeFlorida.com | Florida Department of Financial Services.
