Issues and Concerns
● Low pressure (983 mb as of 09 UTC) is still rapidly intensifying this morning as it starts to pull away from the North Carolina coast.
● The low will move to a position S of Nova Scotia by tonight and to the S of Newfoundland by Monday morning.
● Widespread gale-force winds with areas of embedded storm-force winds have been observed near and over the Gulf Stream E of the Mid-Atlantic overnight.
● Hurricane-force sustained winds of 65-70 kt will become more common…specifically in the S-SW quadrants of the low this morning, and then in the S-SE quadrants this afternoon into tonight mainly S of the Gulf Stream. There is high confidence in the hurricane-force conditions occurring.
● Wind gusts could easily reach 80-90 kt within the area of hurricane-force sustained winds.
● This is a dangerous situation. Mariners must be executing avoidance plans now and steer clear of this system, if possible.
