We recently received an email from a reader wondering why we print information from Congressman Renzi, particularly in the wake of all the media "hype," currently blasting across television and print.

On April 19, Congressman Renzi informed his constituents that "Today, the FBI came to my family's business to obtain documents related to their investigation. I view these actions as the first step in bringing out the truth. Until this matter is resolved, I will take a leave of absence from the House Intelligence Committee. I intend to fully cooperate with this investigation."

When asked about rumors concerning his resignation, he stated "For several weeks, I have been the subject of leaked stories, conjecture, and false attacks about a land exchange. None of them bear any resemblance to the truth, including the rumor that I am planning on resigning."

I have been in touch with the FBI, both the D.C. and the local Phoenix offices. It is their policy to issue a "NO COMMENT" on ALL ongoing investigations, and until we have specific information of charges brought against the Congressman (which at this time there are not), we refuse, unlike many who seem only interested in sensationalizing for the sake of "selling" papers, to print speculation.

It's sad and unfortunately true that media often distorts what they perceive as "fact," when often times it is based purely on supposition.

It is indeed tragic when lack of information and supporting documentation leads to assumptions and character assault.

On another note, Mother's Day is just a couple weeks away. Don't forget to honor yours on Sunday, May 13.

Until next issue . . . take care.   back...
