I thought I would start off this column on a bright note and let folks know that our recent rains have added about a foot of water to Roosevelt Lake. Much of the surrounding areas have been inundated with moisture, increasing water flow from the Salt, the Tonto and even Pinto Creek into Roosevelt Lake. Temperatures over the last couple of weeks dropped down into the 90s, giving Arizona some pretty tolerable summer days.

Then Mother Nature stepped in and decided to break another record. Highs in Phoenix hit 114 on Sunday. Forecasters are calling for highs of 110 all this week. Better start practicing those rain dances again!

Readers should be delighted with the inclusion of our In the Kitchen column with this issue. We've given you some tasty recipes for potatoes and for apples to whet your appetites and tantalize your taste buds.

Speaking of taste buds, if you haven't visited Boston's Lake House Grill in the heart of Roosevelt lately, you might want to stop in and check out the new additions to the menu. All those tasty burger offerings can now be ordered with chicken. The restaurant has added fried chicken, beer brats and pizza to the array of food choices. A take out menu with all the selections is now available. Just ask for one.

Sports fans will have more to scream about with four new large screen TVS for watching their favorite football game while eating lunch or dinner. Boston's is easily accessible on State Route 188 or your way to or from Roosevelt Lake. Check out their ad in this issue across from page 11 for hours.

We have an extra week this month before the next issue hits the streets on September 5. Until then . . . take care.   back...
