Our new name may have confused readers when they picked up this edition of what has been known as Tonto Basin News for the last 11+ years. I contemplated having the new name coincide with the new facelift, which debuts with the June 18 issue and made the decision to associate the current look with the new name in order to lessen the confusion.

Arizona Free Press, formerly Tonto Basin News, is changing its format to a full-size newspaper. The name change reflects our commitment toward eventual statewide expansion. This new format will allow for a wider range of articles with the same quality readers have become accustomed to, along with full color and more photos. We're excited not only to have the opportunity to increase circulation and readership, but to add jobs to our local community here in Globe. I will continue to take "baby steps" with the growth of this paper in order to keep the quality and accuracy you have come to enjoy and appreciate over the years. I certainly welcome your comments regarding these changes.

When I started this publication in December 1997 (a mere 12 pages), I had no idea it would grow into a full-fledged newspaper with such a wide-reaching circulation. The increasing number of website hits continues to astound me on a daily basis. What began as a few hundred hits, is now over 10,300 hits in a 10 day period, translating to nearly 31,000 hits per month and growing! Visitors can access the website either via tontobasinnews.com or http:azfreepress.com.

We hope you like all the new changes and we are looking forward to providing you with current news and up-to-date information.

Until next issue . . . take care.   back...
