Congratulations to Globe, Arizona resident Nathan O'Neal on finishing his freshman year among the ASU elite. In addition to making Deans List, Nathan has found time as part of ASUs marching band.

As many of you know, it was Nathan who played an integral part in the relaunch of this publication. I couldnt be more proud of such a fine young man. It is not often that I come across someone with a work ethic as strong as that displayed by Nathan. I have absolutely no doubt that he will be among the best of the best in whatever dreams he pursues throughout his life.

Sports fans were treated to loads of excitement this past weekend as ASU beat North Carolina, 5 to 2, in the tenth inning at the Mens College World Series.

According to NCAA stats, this was the 80th all-time MCWS game to go extra innings and the first since UC Irvines 8-7 win over Arizona State in the 2007 MCWS. Three of the last five MCWS games to go extra innings have involved Arizona State.

Arizona State is now 28-0 when allowing two runs or less this season and lowered their national-best ERA to 2.76.

As of press time, Arizona State was scheduled to face the winner of the Texas-Southern Miss game on June 16 at 6 p.m. CT . Lets hope they can keep the momentum going with another win.

NASCAR fans were kept on the edge of their seats as Mark Martin cruised by Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle, who were running out of gas on the two-mile Michigan International Speedway track.

There was just over a lap left when Johnson ran out in the tri-oval short of the start-finish line, then Biffles Ford sputtered going into turn one.

As we head into summer, our nations independence day is just around the corner. The fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year, with celebrations planned all over the state. As of press time, Tempe still had plans in the works for their annual celebration over Tempe Town Lake. Visit their website for all the details.

If all goes as planned (and Murphy keeps his nose out of it), we should have a complete update for you in the next issue, just in time for all the celebration festivities.

Plans are also in the works for Arizonas centennial celebration. Look for more updates on this in the next issue.

Temperatures over the past few weeks have been approximately ten degrees below normal, and I for one, would love to see temperatures in the 90s hang around all summer long. Alas, I doubt that will be the case, so I encourage all of you to get our and enjoy this fabulous weather while its here.

Until then . . . take care and . . .

Dance like theres nobody watching. Love like youll never get hurt. Sing like theres nobody listening. Live like its heaven on earth.
