Sadie Jo Bingham, Gila County Recorder and her staff will be mailing out Election Notices the first week of May to all registered voters in Gila County regarding the upcoming 2018 Elections.
If you are not registered with one of the major political parties (otherwise known as Independent voters or Party Not Designated voters) you can choose ONE political party ballot to vote for in the Primary Election. You can choose from; Democrat, Green, Republican or City/Town Only (if you reside within the City/Town) ballot. This notice must be returned to the Gila County Recorder’s Office no later than July 25, 2018. Selecting a political party ballot will NOT change your voter registration to the political party ballot you requested. You will remain a Party Not Designated (PND) or Independent registered voter.

TUCSON, Ariz. –U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales apprehended a U.S. citizen involved in a failed smuggling attempt involving almost 11 pounds of heroin Tuesday.

Officers working at the Morley Pedestrian Gate referred a 52-year-old Marana, Arizona woman for further inspection. A CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to a scent that it was trained to detect, resulting in the discovery of drugs that were wrapped around her midsection. The heroin weighed almost 11 pounds, an excess of $188,000.

One-time allocation from Rainy-day Fund interest will support arts and culture programs statewide

The $10.4 billion fiscal year 2019 budget passed this morning by the legislature includes a $2 million appropriation to the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Derived from interest accrued on the state’s Rainy-day Fund, this allocation will not increase overall state spending. Governor Doug Ducey, who touted the increased arts investment in a Tweet earlier in the week, is expected to sign the budget bills before the weekend.

We are very close to passing a very significant budget investment into K-12 education, and I want to update you on where things stand.

On Friday, along with the Senate President and the Speaker of the House, I announced a joint budget agreement that included a major increase in funding for public education.

This budget was very much influenced and shaped by our school leaders. On April 10, I met with a group of superintendents representing students from across the state specifically to talk about the impact a strike would have on their schools and communities.
