Drivers should consider 51st/67th avenues as alternates during construction

Changes are in store for motorists traveling along 59th Avenue south of Interstate 10 with work starting on frontage roads between Roosevelt Street and Lower Buckeye Road in west Phoenix as part of Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway construction.

The Arizona Department of Transportation project is creating 2.5-mile frontage roads to maintain northbound and southbound access to businesses and residences adjacent to the freeway.

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for lane restrictions on I-8 between Paloma and Painted Rock roads beginning at 7 a.m. weekdays through the end of January.

Contractors are scheduled to install raised pavement markings and do seeding for natural vegetation near the project site. The work is part of a project to improvement pavement between mileposts 96 and 106 on I-8 west of Gila Bend.

Make plans to attend one of two community open houses the Arizona Department of Transportation is hosting for residents, businesses, the traveling public and others to learn more about the Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) widening and improvement project.

ADOT is scheduled to begin work in February on the Loop 101 between Interstate 17 in Phoenix and Pima Road/Princess Drive in Scottsdale.

Drivers who use the Loop 303 north of Interstate 10 should expect a series of on-ramp closures during daytime hours beginning Monday, Nov. 5, and continuing on weekdays through Thursday, Nov. 15.

The closures are necessary as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues work on a project to improve safety and traffic flow on Loop 303 between I-10 and Northern Avenue. ADOT advises drivers to use an alternate ramp to access Loop 303 while the following on-ramp closures are in place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.:

Drivers who use Interstate 15 in northern Arizona should expect lane closures and possible delays next week while crews perform pavement preservation work.

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises northern Arizona drivers to plan for lane restrictions during daylight hours in both directions on I-15 between mileposts 13 and 30, through the Virgin River Gorge, while crews complete roadway work that will help extend the life of the pavement. Crews applied an oil-based sealant on the roadway and will return to stripe the lanes Monday, Oct. 29 through Friday, Nov. 2, during daylight hours.

And for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway, “somewhere” is near Elliot Road and 59th Avenue in Laveen, where the first lane mile of pavement is in place for the state’s largest single highway project ever.

Laying pavement began in late July and has occurred in one of the flattest stretches of the South Mountain Freeway project, from north of Estrella Drive to Olney Avenue.
